Snow guards are an absolute must for metal roofs—especially here in the Pacific Northwest or in any snowy climate. In this episode of The Buildy Bunch, we’re tackling snow retention head-on by installing a reliable snow rail system to stop dangerous snow slides and protect what’s below your roof. Follow along as we share pro tips and tricks to make your installation smooth and efficient: Protecting your gutters with a simple pool noodle hack—scratches are the last thing you want! Clamping and aligning with a 6" overlap for maximum effectiveness. Drilling pilot holes with a 3/16" drill bit on both sides of the snow guard for clean, accurate installs. Using an awl punch for precise screw holes in the field—each rib, front and back. Securing both sides of the snow guard (front and back) with 1" self-tapping screws, 1/4 head, for a firm and reliable hold. This system is quick to install—each 10' section takes about 10 minutes. Whether you’re tackling a new project or maintaining your metal roof, these tips will save you time and hassle. Snow avalanches on metal roofs can be dangerous and costly—this project ensures your roof is safe, winter-ready, and built to last. *Helpful Tools and Links:* A similar awl tool I used for hole punch: Klein Tools 650 Scratch Awl with 3-1/2-Inch Shank and Cushion Grip: https://amzn.to/3BNloo6 3/16" Inch Cobalt Drill Bits - 13 Pack: https://amzn.to/3W1zUzE Have you installed snow guards or used other snow retention systems?
