Dear YouTube viewers, 🎸 Guitar Tutorial – 又见炊烟 (Yòu Jiàn Chuī Yān) Welcome back to the channel! In today’s tutorial, we’re going to learn how to play the beautiful classic 又见炊烟 (Yòu Jiàn Chuī Yān), famously sung by the legendary Teresa Teng. This beloved Mandarin song was released in 1978 and has since become one of the most memorable nostalgic songs in Chinese music. The Chinese lyrics were written by Zhuang Nu, a famous lyricist known for writing many classic Mandarin songs. However, the melody actually comes from a Japanese song composed by Minoru Kainuma, a Japanese composer born in 1909 who wrote many well-known Japanese songs and children’s melodies. (Wikipedia) The tune was originally part of a Japanese song called 里の秋, written shortly after World War II. The song reflected the feelings of children in Japan hoping for the safe return of their family members from the war. Many years later, the melody was adapted into Mandarin, with new lyrics written by Zhuang Nu and beautifully performed by Teresa Teng, becoming the song we know today as 又见炊烟. (Wikipedia) The song paints a peaceful countryside scene at dusk, where cooking smoke slowly rises from village homes. In Chinese culture, this image of 炊烟 symbolizes warmth, home, and family life. When the singer sees the smoke rising again, it brings back memories and emotions connected to loved ones and the past. The gentle imagery of sunset, evening smoke, and quiet landscapes expresses a deep sense of longing, nostalgia, and heartfelt remembrance. In this tutorial, I’ll guide you step by step through the chords and techniques so you can capture the same warm and nostalgic feeling of this classic song on the guitar.
