In the world of legendary (and expensive...) Boss modulations, everybody knows the classic CE-1 Chorus Ensemble & CE-2 Chorus. But have you ever used the CE-3...?? Neither had I. Essentially designed in 1982 to be a stereo version of the CE-2, this first-year model has a couple of brilliant tricks up its sleeve. In mono, you can use the 'Stereo Mode' switch to completely remove the dry signal for a crazy pitch-bending vibrato effect. But using it to hit two amps, that switch is the key to two different-yet-awesome effects. Mode II is the 'typical' stereo effect taken from the CE-1...it splits dry & wet signals 100% for a Wet/Dry chorus sound. But Mode I gives you essentially the same mix of dry & wet on both sides; but one of the modulated signals is thrown out of phase with the other, giving a similar effect to the Dimension C pedal. Cool or what?! Combine that with a top set of BBD analog delay chips (MN3207 & MN3102) this really is a quality vintage chorus pedal, with epic functionality, for a fraction of the price of a CE-1 or CE-2. It's a real sleeper on the vintage pedal market :-) Today I'll be running it in mono, stereo, and also into an overdrive (Marshall The Guv'nor MkI) to see how it behaves with gain. What do you think? Magical, inspiring & huge? Or not for you? Comment below!
