This EMDR intervention can be self-administered during times when you need access to tools that reduce stress, anxiety, and alleviate insomnia. It is a powerful resourcing technique (phase 2) that is designed to facilitate the experience of finding a safe/calm place. The feather serves as a focal point and moves from side-to-side (bilaterally) and each 2 minute round of BLS is accompanied by a soothing bilateral drumbeat. The rhythmic, alternating stimulation of the left and right sides of the body combines visual and auditory modalities of bilateral self-regulation. If you prefer to engage in tactile bilateral stimulation while watching this video, try using the Butterfly Hug technique as the feather bounces back and forth.
