Shangrao, known as Guangxin and Xinzhou in ancient times, is a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Jiangxi Province, one of the important cities in the middle reaches of Yangtze River, located in the northeast of Jiangxi Province, between 27°48´-29°42´ north latitude and 116°13´-118°29´ east longitude, connecting Zhejiang in the east, Fujian in the south and Anhui in the north, at the intersection of Yangtze River Delta Economic Zone, West Coast Economic Zone and Poyang Lake Ecological Economic Zone. It is known as "Shangrao's richness and ecological capital", "the thoroughfare of eight directions" and "the first gateway of Yuzhang". As of June 2020, Shangrao City has three municipal districts, eight counties and one county-level city under its jurisdiction. As of November 1, 2020, the resident population of the city was 6,491,088. In 2021, Shangrao will achieve a regional GDP of 304.35 billion yuan, an increase of 9% year-on-year. Shangrao has many famous mountains and scenic spots, and has been a tourist destination as early as the Tang Dynasty, with countless sightseeing tours, poems and songs left by officials and celebrities, literati and inkmen throughout the ages. The territory is rich in landscapes, red revolutionary sites and ancient cultural relics. Shangrao has been awarded as "China's Most Happy City", "China's Best City for Business Investment in Zhejiang", "China's Best City for Business Investment in Guangdong", and "China's Best City for Business Investment in Fujian".
