It runs east-west and is known as a green transportation corridor. There are trolleybuses and subways built on the ground and underground, which basically run along the entire Zhongshan Road. In Guangzhou's history, there have been more than 100 century-old shops. According to statistics from the cultural department, more than 70 time-honored shops in the city have been concentrated along Zhongshan Road 4, 5, and 6. From the east entrance of Zhongshan Road 3 to the west entrance of Zhongshan Road 6, it was originally the oldest east-west axis and commercial district in Guangzhou. Along the road are the Nanyue King's Office, City God Temple, Panyu Academy, Christian Church and other historical sites and cultural relics protection units, which are combined with arcades to form a unified urban cultural landscape. Zhongshan Road 4, 5, and 6 are located within the old city wall of Guangzhou. In the Ming and Qing Dynasties, it was already a main street running from Dadongmen (Yuexiu Road intersection) to Zhengximen (Renmin Road intersection), called "Hui Ai Street". Along the street are the main government offices in Guangzhou, such as the Qing Dynasty's Provincial Administration, the Governor's Office, and the Guangdong Dusi. During the Tang and Song dynasties, many Arabs and Persians came to Guangzhou to do business, and there were as many as 120,000 to 200,000 foreign merchants living in Guangzhou all year round. In the 29th year of Kaiyuan in the Tang Dynasty (741), the court designated an area outside Guangzhou as a Fanfang for foreign merchants to live in, and set up a Fanfang Office and a Fanchang to manage it. Huiai Street and Guangta Street were both within the Fanfang area. During the most prosperous period of Fanfang, the area from Guangta Street to Huiai West Street was home to "tens of thousands of foreign and Han families", and nearby such as Manju Lane was the agate trading market for Arabs and Persians. In 1608 (the 36th year of Wanli), Zhimeizhai Sauce Garden was founded opposite the City God Temple in the city. From 1735 to 1795 (during the Qianlong period), the time-honored restaurant Fulaiju was already operating outside the Huiai East City God Temple, famous for its crispy crucian carp, hand-torn chicken, and braised fish head. In 1875 (the first year of Emperor Guangxu's reign in the Qing Dynasty), Chen Huiru, who started out as a snack shop, founded Huiru Building on Huiai Street. In 1914 (the third year of the Republic of China), Australian Chinese Cai Xing and Cai Chang built the "City Daxin Company" at the intersection of Huiai Street and Shuangmendi (now Beijing Road), which was then called the "Daxin Company Branch". In addition to operating department stores, it also had a rooftop amusement park, a wine department, an ice room, and bathrooms.
