Baruntse Peak has slightly higher objective danger exposure than Pumori with 50deg climbing slope increasing avalanche danger but in general it is an accessible climb with tremendous views on Everest, Makalu and Khumbu region peaks. The best summit chances are during spring climbing season, however Mount Baruntse is also climbable in the autumn. About Baruntse Climb A standard access to Baruntse basecamp is via Mera La Pass from Lukla along spectacular Hinku Valley. Alternative access is via remote Barun- Makalu trek from Tumlingtar. Mera La option allows opportunity to execute acclimatization and warm up climb on Mera peak. Really cool trekking option is crossover from Lukla to Tumlingtar adding to attractiveness of Baruntse Expedition. Baruntse Basecamp is located at 5300m in a broad open valley on the lateral moraine of the Hunku glacier. Baruntse Camp 1 at 6100m on West Col on the edge of Upper Barun glacier is reachable via Hunku glacier and 150m long 50 degree steep gully secured by our staff in collaborative approach with other operators by fixed rope bee line to the Col. Baruntse Camp2 at 6400m on the edge of the Upper Barun glacier at the start of south-east ridge is reached via long glacier ascent on low angled glacial slope, where we use a fixed rope to protect from open or hidden crevasses. Our 9 days program allows to account for weather and individual physical condition and strength with ample opportunities to carry supplies and Baruntse summit push.
