China House is a traditional compound of 3 heritage buildings, linked by an open courtyard into 14 spaces comprising shops and cafes.It's effortlessly charming and unpretentious. The place is awesome. Set inside three houses with hip and uber stylist interiors, China House is a multifaceted concept that's hard to put into one box.It's an F&B compound at its core which doubles as an art gallery and event space. An art gallery that provides housing for visiting artists and performers, retail spaces you can rent for pop up stores, and a performing arts space for live acts like bands, slam poetry, and stand up comedy. It even has a mini library! And if that weren't bipolar enough, what China House is perhaps most famous for, in spite of being all that, are its cakes. Yes, its cakes! In China House you can go for a dose of caffeine and a large decadent slice of tiramisu cake, which is a crowd favourite. It's easy to fall hard in love with the multi-venue place, which even had a bakery and a wine house. Upstairs on the cafe's second floor, you'll also find a wide range of quality souvenirs and trinkets, such as batik tote bags, paintings, crockery and more. Another thing that makes China House so interesting is the actual space itself. Occupying three heritage houses, it's long narrow space measuring just 25ft wide but 400ft long. It's so long in fact, that it has two entrances - one on Beach Street and another on adjacent Victoria Street. Enter from Beach Street and you'll find yourself in the Kopi C.Expresso Cafe and Bar, one of the most popular cafes in Penang. It's an all-day breakfast coffee bar which also serves sandwiches and light entree. Among its three restaurant, this looks to be the most popular.
