Laughter therapy is a universal non-pharmacologic approach to reduce stress and anxiety. Laughter has been shown to exert stress-reducing effects by suppressing the bioactivities of epinephrine, cortisol, and 3,4-dihydrophenylacetic acid (a major dopamine catabolite) (Berk et al., 1989; Yim, 2016). Laughter also increases the secretion of endorphins, the feel good hormone that decreases stress and pain. It is natural AND it is FUN!! Here, we do a laugh along with our wonderful laughter friend, Robert Rivest, whom you can hear in the background. I often do laugh alongs with his videos.
