CHELSEA WOMEN EXTEND SONIA BOMPASTOR… Forgive me if this video seems all over the place… it is. Chelsea have no idea what they are doing We may be watching the downfall of Chelsea Women before our very eyes. After winning the domestic treble in her first season coaching the Women’s Super league giants, Sonia Bompastor may have already lost control of the team. The back-to-back losses to Arsenal and Manchester City are certainly worrying, but some could say that expectations are unreasonable given CHelsea’s success the past few years. However, I argue that the team mentality has broken without Emma Hayes at the helm for Chelsea, something we first saw in Chelsea’s 8-2 aggregate loss to Barcelona last year in the Women’s Champions League Semi-Finals. Now, Paul Green—the man who built the women's team into what it is today—was just relived of his duties by BlueCo in a power transition. Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart, who oversee the men's side, will now run the women's side also despite having ZERO experience in women's football. It seems Bompastor (or... the new runners of the team) wants a total makeover of the squad despite the talent already there. Despite many key players like Aggie Beever-Jones, Hannah hampton, Sam Kerr, Guro Reiten, Lucy bronze Millie Bright, and others being out of contract this summer—extensions seem to be a while away. Catarina Macario has reportedly already rejected an extension from Bompastor in the club. This could get messy real fast. So, does Bompastor need the time to build the squad to how she likes. Or, as I argue, does her stubbornness and lack of player management skills in squad rotation already make her fit for the hot seat.
