Filmed on Saturday 12th April 2025. There is no sound on the video. The day after the A46 (between Coventry and Warwick) was closed, for about 3 weeks. The road is a major north/south highway, almost a motorway (three lanes in each direction), connecting the M69 with the M40. Near Stoneleigh Showground (National Agricultural and Exhibition Centre, NAEC) and Kenilworth Golf Club (Crewe Lane) - www.kenilworthgolfclub.co.uk Looking towards the showground, in the (eventual) direction of London (eastwards). The carriageway of the A46 is being removed in this section, so that the concrete structure can be slid into place and form the new carriageway. From the HS2 website: "The A46 is a major highway that connects Coventry, Kenilworth and Leamington Spa to the M40. We are constructing a box structure to take the new HS2 line under the A46 in Kenilworth, which has been built offline adjacent to the carriageway. Now we have built the structure, it will be moved into place using a “box push” technique across the existing carriageway in spring 2025.​ This construction method reduces the impact on road users and our workforce by working away from the carriageway and only installing traffic management on the A46 when it is essential. The structure will weigh approximately 15,000 tonnes and is made up of 4,300 cubic metres of concrete and 120 concrete beams". The A46 will be closed for approximately three weeks (from 8pm Friday 11 April until 6am Thursday 1 May 2025, at the latest), for the A46 to be excavated and the concrete 'box push' to be performed. According to HS2/Balfour Beatty VINCI (BBV): "This will involve a jacking mechanism, designed by specialist civil and structural engineering company Freyssinet, which will push the box across on a guiding raft at a speed of up to 2.5 metres per hour for a total distance of 64 metres" Severe fines will be imposed by the Highways Agency (@NationalHighways) for any extension to the A46 closure, beyond the agreed three weeks. Based on previous experience of similar work, it will be completed ahead of schedule.
