A collective sigh of relief is being heard at casinos and horse tracks around the state. Gov. Phil Murphy announced casinos in Atlantic City will reopen on Thursday, July 2, operating at 25% of their capacity. It will put thousands of New Jerseyans back to work. Anyone looking to throw down a bet on their favorite horse now can. Race tracks will reopen for in-person bets, including at their sportsbooks and lounges as long as they abide by gathering limits. Indoor dining at restaurants at 25% capacity statewide also will resume on Thursday, July 2. On Monday health officials report 359 new confirmed cases across the state for a total of 169,415. Twenty-seven additional deaths putting the death toll at 12,895. The governor also trotted out a new map created by the nonprofit COVID Act Now, “a consortium of health care and public policy leaders from around the nation who have been tracking state responses to this emergency. According to COVID Act Now’s research, New Jersey is one of only four states which it deems as being on-track to contain COVID-19. The governor says the progress on the numbers leads to the announcement on Atlantic City.
