Originally recorded April 23, 2019. Getting a "whip hose" (sometimes called a remnant hose or leader hose) is a great idea for your regular garden hose. It's simply a short length of hose, anything from 3 to 25 feet will work. The reason you'd want to use such a thing is to protect your regular garden hose from damage. The whip hose can be dragged around, beat up, run over with the car, damaged, or destroyed, while keeping your expensive garden hose intact. If the whip hose gets damaged, it's just a couple of bucks to replace it. Also, if you have a big, heavy-duty garden hose that's tough to drag around, a whip hose would also be a great idea. It makes your handling the hose a lot easier, as they're usually of lesser rigidity than standard hoses. As such, they may kink, but the idea is to allow the kink to happen on the whip hose rather than down the line, so you don't have to walk over to it to undo the kink. I have a heavy-duty red garden hose. It's fantastic. But it's HEAVY to drag around. I've added this Goodyear rubber hose to the end of my garden hose to act as a whip hose, and it's made the use of the hose so much easier and more enjoyable. A lot of times, any job that requires the use of the hose need the water right where the hose is. By using a whip hose, you can get enough reach for those shorter jobs without having to unroll (and then roll up) your big garden hose. The same also applies to air hoses for compressed air. Using a whip hose allows that end to get beat up, and when it's no longer serviceable you can simply replace it for a few dollars. For the bumper stop, I had something leftover, but something called a "hose reel bumper stop" is what you'd want. This hose, from Home Depot, looks the same as the red hose, and at about half the price, looks like it's a better deal. It's not. Go to both Home Depot and Lowe's and try bending Depot's hose compared to Lowe's. It's worth the money.
