Slieve Bearnagh | Mourne Mountains

A winter walk in the Mourne Mountains on a peaceful weekday with not another living soul on the hills. Followed the Trassey Track to the high col of Hare's Gap and the Mourne Wall. A steep ascent of Slieve Bearnagh over frozen ground, with lying snow higher up among the tors where snow danced crazily in the strong wind. Other high peaks appeared momentarily from the mist and vanished as light snow fell. A steep ascent on slippery ground required care as the Mourne Wall was followed downhill again to the col with Slieve Meelmore. A walk back past old quarrying for the fabled Mourne granite brought the relative comfort of the Trassey Track again.
