Installed in the field, a gas flow meter is subject to conditions that can affect its performance. Swirl from upstream disturbances and pipe configurations, deposits from dirty gas, mechanical damage to the transducers, corrosion and deposits on the walls - all thes can change the ideal conditions under which the meter was first calibrated. The signal converter on the flowmeter shown here has a built-in diagnostics board. It analyses the signals, compares them with ideal values when the flowmeter was new, and gives an indication of the extent of the problem, when it will become serious, and what to do to rectify the problem.
