The state called its 25th witness on Tuesday after a midday break. Officer Nicole Mackenzie is the Medical Support Coordinator for the Minneapolis Police Department. She works on first aid education while training recruits, cadets and current officers. Morning testimony ended with Minneapolis Police Department (MPD) use of force training expert Lt. Johnny Mercil on the stand. Prosecutors showed Mercil a photo of Chauvin with his knee on Floyd. "Is this an MPD trained neck restraint?" he asked. "No, sir," Mercil responded. But during cross examination, Mercil was pressed by Chauvin's attorney Eric Nelson, and admitted that while the technique Chauvin used was not a trained neck restraint, he may have been following the training of using body weight to gain control of a person. Court opened Tuesday with prosecutors calling Minneapolis police Sgt. Ker Yang, the department's Crisis Intervention Training Coordinator. Yang is a law enforcement veteran who has worked his way up through MPD during a 24-year career.
