1950’s KDK 36” Industrial Ceiling Fan | New In Box!

Here I have the oldest new in box fan in my posession as of yet; a KDK 36” ceiling fan model 90Z0 from the 1950’s! Never in my wildest dreams did I come up with the idea of owning something this special in this stage of my life, but here we are! This fan is all sorts of weird to me. For starters, it's equipped with 2 capacitors of 1,8 uF value. The blades aren't directly screwed to the motor, but instead fastened with a clamping mechanism within the motor. In the topic of fasteners, the motors gets secured to the downrod with a metal slug & 2 cotterpins, and the downrod is hung on the ceiling with an S hook instead of a J hook. Add to that the DC like 7 speed regulator, and you get yourself something that you just never see on any fan nowadays. I'd really love to see this fan installed in an old Dutch colonization era house. You can tell that the extremely long downrod suits a brick home with a 6 to 8 meter high teakwood ceiling really well! In case you forgot / didn't know, this fan was said to've come from a warehouse filled with new in box 1950's stuff from Jakarta. I believe the seller obtained at least 5 of these fans, mine being the one with the most intact packaging, instructions & components. The other 4 had missing regulators, mounting hardware, canopies, downrods, etc. My fan actually has the downrod from another fan which had been used for quite some time, which is why it's rather filthy & corroded. That said, this isn't the only fan I purchased from this seller! The story was that Pankaat had inquired about this fan right after I bought it. After a bit of discussions, he told me to purchase one on his behalf. At this point the seller no longer had any units that are fully complete, but fortunately there was still 1 motor which had its box & instructions, and spare blades in decent shape that's up for grabs. As for the downrod, I offered to cut mine in half & give one to him, but he ended up telling me that he had spares at home. I gave him that fan when we met in 2024, so expect a video from his channel coming soon! Let's now talk about the operations & performance, which is another thing that shocked me. When I first tried this fan on in this room, I was confused by how slow this fan spun on speed 7. I thought surely it had more power than that, I'd tested the motor at the seller's place & it had plenty of torque & RPM! It was until I switched the control to the lower numbers on the regulator when the fan started picking up speed, and boy does it fly on full blast! I was really expecting nothing more than my CEMC 36" industrial RPM-wise, but it's actually about as fast as modern ceiling fans from India! And because the blade pitch is quite reasonable, this thing blasts a TON of air downwards! However, because this fan has curved tip blades, and as I found out no 2 curved tip blade ceiling fans have the same airflow pattern, the airflow dissipates in mere couple of meters. This is one of those ceiling fans that can't really be felt across the room, even though it's showering everything underneath it with air. Words can't even begin to express how happy I am to have this fan! I'd become so immersed with the 'buy it used & restore it' path to owning fans in good shape which is why I hardly look out for new in box fans even to this day, but you never know when the blue moon appears & I know too well not to pass over this brilliant opportunity.
