I’ve always been an impatient DJ, dropping the beat in too early, or truly fed up with a breakdown after only eight counts, destroying the peace with some too-loud, jarring noise. In the past year, I’ve challenged myself to become a cleaner DJ, focusing on seamless mixes, adopting a techno style of mixing. Did my mixes become sterilized because of this striving towards “perfection”? Did they lose that spark of life they used to have when they were filled with all those little gabbergirl-isms? On New Year’s Day, the Gabber Elders and I were attending our third Mixmarathon, and as I was listening to the last half of DJ Asylum’s brutal hardcore set, it occurred to me that there is a certain style of DJing that almost only works for hardcore, that haphazard, slapdashery way of slamming, cutting, juggling, and layering—and because of this, it should be used often, enthusiastically, and even celebrated! Hardcore is meant to be fun and loud. So for this set, I threw precision mixing out with the biohazard waste. Get ready for butchery on the bloodiest level, and for some fist-pumping fun that even your mother will be able to appreciate. Dedicated to the Gabber Elders; I used tracks made by all three of my DJ partners (Low Entropy, Nikaj, and DJ Asylum), plus I train-spotted their mixes to steal the hottest tracks they were already playing 😉 Thanks for daring me to be the best, and worst, DJ I can be!!! And because I mixed this in that yesteryear messy GabberGirl style, I put my old school smiley face cross milk bones logo on the artwork. thegabberelders.com Theme: hardcore remixes or remakes of mainstream or popular music—music you may have heard on the radio before it magically turned hardcore. DJ Chosen Few, our hardcore brother who left us too early this year, starts this mix in fine fashion. Rest In Powerful Beats, while we always Remember and Respect yours.
