The Ohio National Guard mourns the loss of three Ohio Air National Guard Airmen assigned to the 121st Air Refueling Wing who died in a KC-135 crash in Iraq, March 12, 2026. Capt. Seth Koval, 38, of Stoutsville, Ohio, served as an aircraft commander with the 121st Air Refueling Wing and had 19 years of military service. Capt. Curtis Angst, 30, of Columbus, Ohio, was a KC-135 pilot with the wing and had served for 10 years. Tech. Sgt. Tyler Simmons, 28, of Columbus, Ohio, was a boom operator with the 121st Air Refueling Wing and had served for eight years. The three Airmen were among six crew members aboard a KC-135 Stratotanker that went down in western Iraq while flying a combat mission in the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility during Operation Epic Fury. In this video message, Maj. Gen. David B. Johnson, assistant adjutant general for Air; Chief Master Sgt. Edward N. Taylor III, Ohio Air National Guard state command chief; Command Sgt. Maj. Scott M. Barga, Ohio National Guard command senior enlisted leader; and Maj. Gen. Matthew S. Woodruff, Ohio adjutant general, reflect on the service, dedication and lasting impact of these Airmen on their fellow service members and the Ohio National Guard. Please keep the families, friends and fellow Airmen of Capt. Koval, Capt. Angst and Tech. Sgt. Simmons in your thoughts, and respect their privacy as they mourn this tremendous loss.
