Disney movies are some of the most beloved movies there are. One of the things that makes them so popular is that they’re known for being great for the whole family. But, how great for the whole family are they, really? When you think about it, Disney movies have never been afraid to go dark, and we have a feeling that this is why some of the more disturbing Disney moments are the ones that stick with people the longest. Some of the newer Disney movies deal with some pretty deep topics, like that first scene from Up and the frightening scene where the toys accept their own mortality in Toy Story 3. That said, it’s not only the newer films that deal with some unusually dark topics. We all remember the children being turned into donkeys in Pinocchio, the way war is portrayed in Mulan, and all the artistic liberties Pocahontas took. There are villains with truly horrific plans, like Cruella De Vil, as well as more insidious ones, like the Beast. And, there are other villains who meet their maker in truly scary ways, like Gaston and Dr. Facilier. And, it wouldn’t be Disney without plenty of children who lose a parent, like in Bambi, Tarzan, The Lion King, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, and The Fox and the Hound, among others. There are even movies with deleted scenes that were too dark for the big screen. Get ready to take a trip down memory lane, and don’t forget your flashlight – things are going to get very dark.
