Most people believe DEVGRU’s “Recce Rifles” used the AEM5 (12th Model) suppressor, but that’s a myth. Just like the old Gordon Carbine misconception, this story spread because the OPS INC and Allen Engineering suppressors all look similar. In reality, the Recce Rifles were equipped with a purpose-built M4 variant designed specifically for their rifles: the M4 Recce suppressor. The confusion came from photos showing DEVGRU operators running OPS INC cans that looked like the AEM5. But DEVGRU doesn’t share procurement with standard SEAL teams. Phil Seberger of Allen Engineering built custom suppressors for Tier 1 units, and the Recce Rifles’ setup. We’re honoring that history with the release of the M4 Recce: a faithful recreation of the original DEVGRU suppressor, built to match 16.5″ Lilja and 14.5″ HK416 barrels. Our limited Recce kit includes the suppressor, barrel, and timed collar.
