The easiest way we've found to keep our plants' soil from drying out is by using these long-lasting self-watering containers. They can hold a few days' worth of water and the plants drink what they need without causing root rot. These planters are sometimes called self-watering, self wicking, sub-irrigated, self-irrigated planters, or many more names that all mean the same thing - You water from the bottom and keep moisture off the leaves and fruits. The result is less opportunity for fungus spores to splash up onto the leaves, which means healthier plants and more fruit. The other big advantage is that we never over water, because the excess water drains out automatically, even in a heavy rain.
