It is believed that Hemamala and the Tooth Prince took refuge near the historical Budugala Kuragala, where they built a Temple of the Tooth to safeguard the sacred Tooth Relic for a period. 📚 Historical Significance Many historical details about Budugala Rajamaha Viharaya, also known as Punchi Mihintale, are documented in the book Budusasuna Bebalunu Palana Pudabim by archaeologist Chakravarthi Ellawala Medhananda Thero. The temple has earned the nickname Punchi Mihinthale due to its resemblance to the famous Mihintale in Sri Lanka. The standing Buddha statue depicting the two-mudra seal at this site is a significant attraction. 🏞️ Natural Beauty The temple is adjacent to the Mahawalatenna Plateau in the Hela Udapattu of Korale. Until the late 1960s, the temple was situated in the original location, but it has since been moved to an adjacent area.
