300’ish riders showed up for this rip snortin’ race around Capitol Forest in Olympia, Washington. There were 3 routes: 30, 50 and 100 miles, proper crank benders, ALL OF THEM. This is the story of the 100 miles of Grit route, in all its bushwhacking glory. Things happen sometimes, and the 1/4 mile bushwhacking section became 2 solid miles through some glitch in the matrix. How ever that occurred, it did not detract one bit from a stupendously fun and beautiful day of goofing off in the woods on bikes. I wish I’d gotten an actual pre-race interview with Becca Book, but I got distracted when Cody Young popped out of the woodwork. I also wish I’d gotten ANY direct footage of Rachel Wills, who was my bushwhacking partner as we all went for the Absurdity KOM. If you’re on the fence about this event for next year, don’t even hesitate. Just go ride that thing! You might even get to whack some bushes.
