It is the oldest Gothic church in Germany and was built between 1235-83 over the grave of Saint Elisabeth (1207-1231). Due to the burial place of Saint Elisabeth, the church was formerly a pilgrimage church and served as the burial place of the Hessian landgraves and was an important church of the Teutonic Order. The church's historic choir is currently being restored. The Klais-organ in the Elizabeth Church was inaugurated on November 5, 2006. According to many experts, is now one of the most important organs in the regional church of Kurhessen-Waldeck!
