Gwynn Angell Jones visit Thomas Jones Mission Nongsawlia Sohra 2023 Gwynn arrived in Jowai when I was a seven months old baby. My parents had been working in the Khasi and Jaintia Hills for 17 years before that. My father was in Sohra for the first year and then my mother came out to India and they were married in Kalcutta in 1931. I picked up Pnar and Khasi at an early age - as children do - but I only attended the junior school for one term. My mother taught me at home but she wanted me to experience being in a class. All I remember learning was the Indian National Anthem! I was ten years of age when we returned to the United Kingdom in 1957 and we lived in Connah's Quay, a town in north east Wales. My parents kept in touch with friends in Jowai and we enjoyed several visitors from time to time. We are members of Salem, a Presbyterian Church of Wales chapel which is close to our home. In 2007, when I was 60 my wife Enid suggested that we visit Meghalaya. We visited the Hospital in Jowai and heard about the disastrous fire and the lack of investment in facilities over the years. We decided to fundraise and were surprised by the number of people who were willing to donate. These donations supported several projects during the last 15 years. Funds raised also helped to support several projects at the Dr Roberts Hospital in Shillong Before my retirement. Several of these business management roles gave me the fundraising and operational experience that has helped me manage the funding of projects in Jowai and Shillong.
