In this video I embark on a 2 day solo backpacking trip in San Diego. This was done in October 2023. Along the way I visit some of the most dramatic views of the Anza Borrego desert that Southern California has to offer. I start my trip in the Cleveland National Forest and first visit Garnet Peak. From there I head south on the Pacific Crest Trail and again, the views just do not disappoint. I would say this section of the PCT offers the best views in San Diego by far. After 17 miles or so I find a nice campsite. In the morning I head north east through some fantastic forests, a big lake and finally back to my car. This turned out to be one of the best trips I have done in a while. I hope you enjoy. Trip Totals Day 1 17 miles, 2,300ft of gain Day 2 10 miles, 450ft of gain Trip overview. Start near Pine Creek Rd and S1-you need a permit to park your car overnight in the CNF. These are easy to obtain. I then head to Garnet Peak, south on the PCT, peak 5663, Penny Pines Trailhead, south on the PCT, Monument Peak, Desert View picnic area, Burnt Rancheria campground, Mt. Laguna store, Burnt Rancheria campground, PCT south to campsite. Day 2. PCT North to Wooded Hill Rd(15S10), north on Big Laguna Trail to Pine Creek Rd to the car.
