UNODC Synthetic Drug Strategy impact in Southeast Asia and the Pacific - Multilateralism

The global synthetic drug problem is very complex and manifesting in different ways all around the world. Patterns of drug production and drug consumption have changed drastically over the past few years and there has been a rapid growth and diversification of synthetic drugs and precursors used in their manufacture. Especially East and Southeast Asia is currently experiencing a surge in supply of synthetic drugs which is also driving domestic consumption and poses a threat for the stability and security in the whole region. The UNODC Synthetic Drug Strategy presents a comprehensive framework to guide international, regional and national action to support countries to effectively address those challenges, articulated across four complementary spheres of action: 1) Multilateralism and international cooperation, 2) Early Warning, 3) Health Responses and 4)Counternarcotic interventions.
