You can also feed into our addiction by "Buying us Coffees" using the link below, we desperately need the caffeine boost: https://coff.ee/chicagohornguys In this (our second) episode, we followed up our discussion of the Altec A5 and A7 voice of the theater systems by listening to Frank Sinatra's classic "My Kind of Town, Chicago Is". First on the Altec A5 and the followed by the A7. Speakers were driven by Audio Research and Conrad Johnson tube electronics. A short discussion on the modifications done to them to improve their sound and make them more suitable for home use.. The A5 has 1005B multicell horns with 288-16G compression drivers on GPA aluminum diaphragms. The A7 has 511B sector horns with 808-8B compression drivers on GPA aluminum diaphragms. Correction: It was mentioned in the video that the T350 is a Heathkit T350. That is incorrect. It is actually a rebadge EV T350 for Speakerlab. Sorry for the error. If you enjoy this video. The Chicago Horn Loudspeaker Guys are two retired regular guys who love music, stereos, and audio reproduced by horns! The purpose of our YouTube channel is to share historic and current information of Horn Loudspeaker technology with music lovers of all ages. Our channel features interviews with owners/enthusiasts of Horn Loudspeaker Systems in the Chicagoland area as well as towns and cities from the surrounding States (Wisconsin, Michigan, Indiana, Iowa.). To understand their history, the music priorities and to glean from them knowledge on getting the best possible sound from their systems. We also collect information from online forums and if possible, conduct experiments to validate our recommendations. We share the knowledge we gain with our viewers in an honest, straight forward and no-non sense manner (and hopefully in an entertaining way). Be forewarn, we do tend to go off topic at times. We focus on classic designs from Altec, Electro-Voice, JBL, Klipsch, as well as more contemporary designs from Bruce Edgar, Tom Danley, Classic Audio Speakers, VOLTI Audio, G.I.P., AMPSANDSOUNDS, as well as many others. We also feature unique DIY efforts that we deemed interesting for our viewers. We hope the information we share on our channel is useful to audio hobbyists and encourage new comers to embrace horn loaded loudspeakers, and ultimately include them as an integral part of the sound system(s). Our videos include subtitles in over 35 languages. Our hope is for our viewership to expand beyond North America, to include music lovers across all continents. Ultimately, we hope to keep the flame going for horn loaded loudspeakers.
