The Battle of Walcheren Causeway scene (31 Oct – 2 Nov 1944) from the recent Netflix Dutch war film, The Forgotten Battle (Dutch: De Slag om de Schelde) (2020). Private William Sinclair (Jamie Flutters), a stray British Paratroop glider pilot of Operation Market Garden makes it to the Canadian Army lines and joins them in brutal assault over the muddy causeways on the heavily-fortified Wehrmacht positions on Walcheren island. Prior to the Battle, the Wehrmacht blasted a huge crater into the causeway to prevent tanks from crossing, and had artillery positioned to shoot straight down its length. Plans to employ assault boats over the water Channel were thwarted by shallow water and muddy conditions unsuitable for water craft leaving the Canadians with the hazardous option of a direct assault along the well-defended causeway.
