The Reiting-Gößeck hike is a loop trail that covers 7.6 mi, with an elevation gain of 4,412 ft. The trail leads to the highest peak in the Eisenerzer Alps. The Gösseck (2214m) is well known by locals for the view one can enjoy on the summit as well as for the variety in plants along the trail. If you are lucky, you might even get a glimpse of one of the many capricorns roaming the area above the tree-line as an added bonus. Like nearly everywhere in the Austrian Alps, alpine marmots - relatives of the groundhog - can be heard and seen here too. The trail starts at about 800m altitude in Gai (Trofaiach) and follows the sometimes steep trail #693 to the summit. For the descent, the so called "Jägersteig" offers one of several, alternative routes back to Gai.
