Check out Bas Rutten's Liver Shot on MMA Surge: http://bit.ly/MMASurgeEp1 In this video, Mahalo's dance expert Steve Valentine breaks down the basic steps for the Cha Cha. Outline of the Basic Movements --------------------------------------------------------------------- The basic steps for the Cha Cha are very similar to those used for the Rumba. To begin, you'll need to practice your hip movement. Start by pushing your left knee forward on your first step. Pull your right hip back as much as you can. Then, push your right knee forward for the second step and create a little space between your legs. Keep your posture leaning slightly forward and pull your left hip back as much as you can. To finish the basic move, repeat those two steps three times, so the counting becomes, "step, step, cha cha cha." Repeat these steps, but begin with your right knee forward on your first step, then push your left knee forward for the second step. Finish the basic move again by repeating those two steps three times, so the counting is, "step, step, cha cha cha." Complete Eight-Count Cha-Cha Basic Steps --------------------------------------------------------------------- An entire Cha-Cha basic step pattern is completed in eight counts. If you're the lead, you will pause on one and step forward with your left on two. On three, step back and make two quick steps immediately followed by a slow step to perform the "cha cha cha" part by the end of four. The pattern for stepping is pause on one, slow on two, slow on three, then quick, quick, slow on four. Repeat this process for steps five through eight. So, the step counting goes as such: (pause on one), two, three, cha cha cha (which is performed on four), then (pause on five), six, seven, cha cha cha (which is performed on eight).
