Follow Müpa Budapest! www.mupa.hu/en    / mupabudapest     / mupabudapest     / mupabudapest   http://instagram/mupabudapest Featuring: Michiel Borstlap - piano Boudewijn Lucas - bass guitar Erik Kooger - drums Michiel Borstlap probably gained wider recognition in Hungary when he released his album Body Acoustic, on which he and his colleagues performed acoustic, completely reworked versions of compositions by Weather Report, the standard bearers of fusion jazz played on electric instruments. And yet by then he had already laid down many milestones in his career, beginning with victory in the 1996 Thelonious Monk Jazz Competition in the United States, which generally opens up the doors to satisfy the more particular tastes of the American jazz public to any up-and-coming European musician. Borstlap stepped through the door and immediately found himself in the company of artists like Herbie Hancock, Gino Vannelli, Pat Metheny and Wayne Shorter. It was not just as a performer that Borstlap quickly made his mark, his composition Memory of Enchantment was recorded by the duo of Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter. To this day, Shorter still includes it on his set lists. Now increasingly frequently performing solo, Borstlap has released 21 albums to date typically featuring his own music performed in various formations. He has been writing film scores since 2008 and his work has been recognised countless times, the Edison Music Award among them. Besides performing solo, his other favourite formation is the trio. He and his rhythm section now prepare to sweep the audience off their feet at the Dutch day of the Jazz Showcase - bringing a fitting end to the festival as a whole. Adding spice to the evening, United front man Barna Pély will also sing a few numbers with the Michiel Borstlap Trio. The concert is supported by the Netherlands Embassy.
