this storyline :O and there are weird transitions but just roll with it [English lyrics in the captions!!! these two are so good! angels!! devils!!!] please stare closer at the image because everything is made of tiny i-dle asterisks. (why did I write a whole python script to generate this image help) (wait but I'm so proud of it, it looks so cuteeee) Anyways, I really like Ash and this is what happened. None of the song recommendations I was getting were really hitting the same vibe but then i-dle came along and Chain. Chain?? The spooky synthwave intros are such a VIBE please somebody back me up Also because I like long things and I like trying to make things unnecessarily long I somehow added a weird transition in the middle (idk why) and a random instrumental break at the end (spoiler alert). So just know I think of it as a dance break but because I a) don't know how to compose and hash together those beat-droppy hardcore techno dance breaks and b) don't really like hardcore techno dance breaks, I'm imagining it like the (hype but ~dramatic chill~) extended intro concert version of ATEEZ Silver Light, with all the extra Wooyoung-iness. Also, these are siblings, but Silver Light is most definitely their scary older scary cousin, and they all sit together with the pile of ATEEZ synthwave friends. Back to this thing...It's super cool that they both happen to have a lot of angelic/demonic imagery. * dun dun dun * So, we can make a super convoluted story here between the two characters! It takes a bit of mental gymnastics because ash is leaning toward empowering in a non-romantic way while chain is decidedly NOT but let's take some creative liberties here and selectively interpret the lyrics to reframe everything. Hmmm...this is just me talking to myself. So, I just wrote out the rest of my reasoning and it was unbelievably long and cringy, so I'm going to just....casually delete it. I don't know if this new version is any better or shorter though... The original lyrics of Ash are like being reborn like a phoenix from the ashes, but with the added perspective of Chain and their very toxic take on love, it's more like an angel being awakened to...corruption? sin??? It's still voluntary, but slightly more questionable. If we take LSF to be an angel that starts off pure, then i-dle is the devil that comes to offer them a taste of darkness and pain. The angel falls, with an extra unhealthily obsessive love story between the two. Then, when they're reborn, they're neither devil nor angel, but something new, something mortal. Wait....isn't this just the story of Eve? ...huh. From how I hear it, I guess the structure highlights are how the song is conveniently divided by my weird extra breaks into 3 neat sections of (mostly) angel pov → devil pov → transformation. Soyeon's parts at the ends of the first two sections basically sum up the developments each time, and her part in the bridge also makes a nice sleep-related bookend that pairs well with the first verse. Before I came up with my convoluted explanation, I was also attempting to have the vocals switch halfway through the chorus instead of the muted overlapping thing we ended up with. The problem is that Ash has a lot of interesting reverb patterns going on that make it very full sounding, so things sound empty when I cut them off, even though I'm trying to fluff up i-dle's voices to match (idk how reverb really works, still). Definitely something that would work better if you were actually singing. I really appreciate all of you who like, comment, or even just listen! –––––––––––––––––––– Songs: LE SSERAFIM - ASH • Ash i-dle - Chain • Chain (Chain) Credit goes to the original artists.
