Experiencing the Greek ultra scene: Aris FC Vs AEK Athens

After a very long winter in Prague, we finally managed to break away and enjoy some sun on the Northern coast of Greece, Thessaloniki to be exact. Thessaloniki made its way onto my football bucket list after reading '1312: Among the Ultras' by James Montague. Honestly, that book since i read it, is my football bible. If you love football, and want to do more football travelling i CAN NOT RECOMMEND that book enough. In the book, the author travels to watch PAOK at the Toumba Vs Olympiacos. Since then PAOK has been on the list. Yet, this weekend PAOK were playing away ... so no Toumba, but another football team based in Salonica was playing at home; Aris FC (Named after Aris, the Greek god of war). A blessing in disguise - I try not to really have a political association lol, but i definitely, would say i am a leftist. Aris FC, are one of the most left wing football clubs in world football. Aris FC Est in 1914, 2 years after the Balkan war that liberated the city from the Ottoman Empire. They became the first ever Greek football club to win the first Greek league championship in 1928, and have gone on to win the league a further 2 times. Their ultra firm, Super 3, named after Gate 3, their section in the stadium, are very politically left wing associated. Anyways, it is the 2022/23 Greek Super league championship rounds, where Aris are taking on AEK Athens, who are looking to win their first league title since 2018. A great day out that consisted of sun, pyro, and football fanatics. Greek football is a must for every ground hopper, and i can't recommend it enough. Enjoy !
