At Sagnlandet Lejre (Land of Legends Lejre) in Denmark you will find King’s Hall – Kongehal, which is 61 meters long. Over 1000 tons of Danish oak, some of it was old growth oak from the 1800’s meant for the old Danish Navy, went into the construction of this Hall. Next to it sits another smaller Hall called the Army Hall which represents where the King’s warriors had their quarters. The King’s Hall evokes the Great Hall of Heorot from "Beowulf," which is believed to have been set at Lejre just three kilometers distant from this new Hall and where the archaeological remains of seven great halls have been discovered. Video taken by the Tribe Chieftain. From "Beowulf" “The well-beloved bedmate of the War-Scylfing leader. Then glory in battle to Hrothgar was given, Waxing of war-fame, that willingly kinsmen Obeyed his bidding, till the boys grew to manhood, A numerous band. It burned in his spirit To urge his folk to found a great building, A mead-hall grander than men of the era Ever had heard of, and in it to share With young and old all of the blessings The Lord had allowed him, save life and retainers. Then the work I find afar was assigned To many races in middle-earth’s regions, To adorn the great folk-hall. In due time it happened Early ’mong men, that ’twas finished entirely, The greatest of hall-buildings; Heorot he named it Who wide-reaching word-sway wielded ’mong earlmen. His promise he brake not, rings he lavished, Treasure at banquet. Towered the hall up High and horn-crested, huge between antlers: Sit now to table, and tell your tales Of glorious heroes, as your heart urges.’ Then a bench was placed for the Geats Gathered together, in the beer-hall: There the strong-hearted were seated, The proud and skilful, a thane beside them, Who bore in his hands a rich ale-cup, Poured bright mead. At times a bard Sang clear in Heorot, brought noble joy To that great host of Danes and Geats.” Music by Danheim "Faldne” under their free You Tube use policy. Thank you!
