I was 18 when I first actually learned this tune and I no want to pay my respects because I really don't think people get how much of a fanatic I am of John Petrucci. To keep it short I was 18 years old on my way to a national guitar competition in Orlando Florida. I had only heard of JP and not Dream Theater quite yet. I remember that whole week. My uncle had bought me "Rock Discipline" and "G3 Live in Tokyo" months before and I remember on that trip all I did was practice practice practice to these DVDs. Being a big fan of John and Joe Satriani I wrote a song a week prior to my competition that inspired by these guys. I won that competition. There were over 1000 players. All wonderfully talented and hardworking but for whatever reason the judges saw something in my music and style of playing they favored. From that day on I kept encouraged to keep playing. I guess I owe it to John and all my other influences. Yah know, over the years with so much access to media you can get too caught up in what other players are doing. Being on JTC definitely amplifies that because you're constantly on call to show what you can do. Don't get me wrong it's a wonderful challenge and I love making educational content for you all but it takes it's toll and every now and again you just need to get back to where you "left off". Just the other day (first time in years) I started getting back to noodling around with this song again and I have to say for the first time in a while I felt like that wide eyed kid again. I felt alive as fuck LOL Doing this little project reminded me of who I am and want to be as a player. For many reasons I've been feeling not myself but thank God for great music and great players like John. Ladies and gentlemen... Damage Control by John Petrucci \m/
