The Airport Line is a tram line of the Manchester Metrolink in Greater Manchester running from Manchester city centre to Manchester Airport via the suburb of Wythenshawe. The line was opened in November 2014. From Manchester Airport, the line passes under the Ringway Road, via an underpass, then runs along segregated roadside track sections, for the next few miles, serving stops at Peel Hall and Shadowmoss, Peel Hall and Robinswood Road. The line then turns onto Wythenshawe Town Centre, before crossing the northern end of Rowlandsway and running on a segregated alignment on the south side of Poundswick Lane. The route serves stops at Benchill and Crossacres before turning onto a segregated section of the track alongside Brownley Road, running along Hollyhedge Road with other traffic. After crossing the M56 motorway, the line serves Roundthorn and Martinscroft then runs alongside the road for the next few miles before Baguley stop. A tram bridge takes the tracks over the Mid-Cheshire railway line before crossing onto a reserved track section alongside the road and stopping at Moor Road. Until Wythenshawe Park stop, the line runs on a strip of land which was originally reserved for a road scheme. The line then serves the Northern Moor stop before crossing the M60 Motorway and serving Sale Water Park. The line then continues on a low embankment, before moving onto a tram only viaduct crossing the River Mersey and the Mersey Valley flood plain. It then runs on-street along Hardy Lane for a short distance before Barlow Moor Road stop. It joins Mauldeth Road before moving northwest where the line joins the former railway trackbed and then the South Manchester Line at St Werburgh's Road. The line runs along South Manchester Line until Trafford Bar, then joins the Altrincham Line until Cornbrook before joining the City Centre Line all the way to Manchester Victoria (passing through Deansgate-Castlefield, St Peter's Square, Piccadilly Gardens, Market Street and Shudehill Interchange). Manchester Metrolink is a tram network in Greater Manchester, England. The network has 99 stops along 103 kilometres (64 mi) of the standard-gauge route, making it the most extensive light rail system in the United Kingdom. The network consists of eight lines which radiate from Manchester city centre to termini at Altrincham, Ashton-under-Lyne, Bury, East Didsbury, Eccles, Manchester Airport, Rochdale and Trafford Centre.
