“The Voice of Innocence from Nauvoo” was an 1842 declaration led by Joseph, Emma, and Hyrum Smith to expose and condemn the rising tide of spiritual wifery, polygamy, bigamy, fornication, and adultery creeping into Nauvoo. It defended virtue, upheld monogamy, and reaffirmed the Church’s commitment to moral purity. The declaration was read publicly—not just to the Relief Society, but before more than 8,000 Saints—who unanimously raised their hands and shouted “Amen” twice in support.
