Frederic Church's Olana

Olana is the home, studio and landscape of 19th century landscape painter, Frederic Edwin Church (1826-1900). Completed in 1872, the Persian-inspired house was conceived as the centerpiece of the 250-acre artist designed landscape. The house, landscape and views were developed by Church as a three dimensional work of art. Olana's collection of furnishings, paintings, sculpture, manuscripts, photographs, family memorabilia and other historic resources have been maintained precisely as Church assembled them. The entire property was listed as a National Historic Landmark in 1965 and is widely considered to represent the birthplace of American art.
