An off-the-beaten path historical attraction in Norway, ISTREHÅGAN ______ 13 March 2021 18:00 (6pm) ______ Istrehågan Ancient Monument Jåberg, Vestfold, Norway Istrehågan is an ancient monument located in Jåberg on the border of Sandefjord and Larvik in Vestfold og Telemark, Norway. This Norwegian ancient site is a burial ground that dates back to the IRON AGE. Istrehågan burial ground is a protected cultural monument. Istrehågan has been named one of the most magnificent stone settings in the Nordic Countries. A burial mound with large stone settings were put up here during the Great Migration over 1,500 years ago. The stone settings The burial ground consists of three round stone settings and two ship settings. All graves are fire graves. In addition to human and animal bones, bear claws, a needle and game pieces of bone, iron nails, ceramics and a decorated bone comb were found in the largest ship. The finds date to the field to 4-600 AD. Large stone settings resemble a ship. The largest "ship" is 24 metres (79 ft) long, and 9 metres (30 ft) meters broad. Most rocks are about 1 meter (3 ft 3 in) tall, while some are as high as 4.5 meters (15 ft). The location The Iron Age burial ground was to be seen from a long distance, and was often in close proximity to roadsides, watercourses or by the sea. The location of the burial ground gave a clear signal to strangers that they were approaching a rich farm with a strong family. Istrehågan burial ground is clearly visible up on a ridge. It is strategically located along the ancient road that runs through Tjølling from Sandar over Istre and on towards Tjodalyng (Tjølling church). Along the ridge there are several tombstones from the Iron Age. Traces of the road still exist, among other things in the form of the path east of the burial field and several so-called hollow roads, which appear as ditches in the terrain south of the rock formations. Many of the stones had been overturned in earlier times, and the burial ground was examined by the University's antiquities collection in the years 1959-62. The stone settings have been restored by Tjølling Historielag. Istrehågan burial ground is owned by the University's cultural history museums, Oslo. _____ Subscribe to our Youtube Channel, THE KRUNS    / thekruns   Music 🎶 1) Viking Music - Ragnar Lothbrok by Solas Composer    • Ragnar Lothbrok   2)Celtic Music - Song of Dusk - Irish Fantasy Folk Bard Song by Solas Composer    • Song of Dusk   3) Wish You Came Back by Filipps Music Team    • No Copyright Music • Wish You Came Ba...
