As climate change intensifies, South Florida is seeing stronger storms, rising seas, and more frequent flooding. In this episode of Your South Florida, we explore how local scientists, designers, and community leaders are helping residents weather the future — through innovation, education, and compassion. We begin at Florida Atlantic University’s Center for Environmental Studies, where researchers, educators, and architects are combining science and design to address climate challenges. From nature-based solutions to climate-resilient infrastructure, they’re working to transform the way our communities prepare for extreme weather. You’ll hear from Alana Edwards, Dr. Colin Polsky, and Jeffrey Huber, FAIA, ASLA, on how environmental education and sustainable architecture are shaping a stronger South Florida. Broward Cares is a collaborative effort between the Community Foundation of Broward, the Jewish Federation of Broward County, and United Way of Broward County. Together, they are helping families access safe housing, storm preparation tools, and equitable disaster relief. Leaders from each organization — Kirk Englehardt, Kathleen Cannon, and Robin Martin (Rebuilding Together Broward) — share how partnerships like these are driving real change on the ground. Through immersive exhibits and hands-on programming, the museum is helping young people see themselves as problem solvers and changemakers. President & CEO Joseph P. Cox, environmental educator Trevor Davis, and EcoExplorers interns Lindsay Perrin and Akira Rivera show us how science education is preparing youth to face the future. Plus, Dr. Jennifer Jurado, Broward County’s Chief Resilience Officer, explains how the museum’s Resilience Hub is bridging science and community impact.
