For our first installment of our Vestige Video Sessions we are proud to present Ragtime Willie. Ragtime Willie explains about this version of "Sure Had A Wonderful Time Last Night": "I got this tune from a field recording, sung and played on guitar by Tommy Wright, accompanied by the great Teodar Jackson on fiddle. They were recorded in Luling TX in the summer of 1965 by Tary Owens. Tommy only sings one verse, so I looked the tune up and found out it was written by Claude DeMetrius and Fleecie Moore for Louis Jordan, who first recorded it in the mid 40's. This tune features the Quills again, this time a different set tuned EGABDE. And the guitar is in standard tuning capoed way up the neck on the 7th fret, playing out of the C position. And how about that Tuba, eh?! Thanks for watching." We got him to free up an afternoon in his busy schedule and filmed 7 examples of his extremely musical and personal approach to his findings in the treasure chest of the past.
