What If Dr Sam Became Prime Minister?

Dr. Samsuri Mokhtar has just been appointed as the new Pengerusi of Perikatan Nasional, and already the hype machine is in full swing. Pemuda PAS is out here singing his praises, celebrating his education, his soft-spoken demeanor, and his apparent freedom from politik dendam. On the surface, the man looks like exactly what the opposition needs — articulate, pleasant, and electable. But looks, as we all know, can be devastatingly misleading. Here is the uncomfortable truth that nobody in PN wants you to think about. Dr. Sam is not the president of PAS. That title belongs to Hadi Awang, a man who has made abundantly clear that he intends to hold power until his dying breath. Behind him sits the Majlis Syura, a body of ulama with the authority to interpret religious matters and effectively shape party direction. So when you vote for Dr. Sam as Prime Minister, you are not just voting for Dr. Sam. You are voting for everyone pulling the strings behind him — and history has shown us, from the fourth floor to Ismail Sabri's tortured tenure as a third-ranked UMNO man governing against his own party, exactly how that story ends. Malaysia deserves a Prime Minister who is his own man, not a poster boy installed to soften the image of a party that has never seriously reckoned with its own contradictions. No amount of reassuring Star interviews or Lebih Masa appearances changes the structural reality of how PAS operates. The Majlis Syura does not dissolve because Dr. Sam wears a suit instead of a jubah. The question Malaysians need to ask themselves is simple and serious: are you comfortable with a Prime Minister whose decisions may ultimately not be his own?
