From ujjain we went to Indore by bus , and from indore we boarded another bus to reach omkareshwar.. It was the holy day of kartik purnima , at five in the morning we proceeded towards the narmada ghat to take a holy dip ...it was still dark but was crowded with the congregation of worshippers.. The traditional belief is passed on to generation after generation and the rituals are observed with great faith and devotion.. We were completely unaware of this regional ritual but wanted to perform the Narmada jis Puja , same like others . The friendly and cooperative locals were more than happy to guide us and participated The banks of the river bustled with the over grown crowd and colourful boats . One can go around the island in boats and enjoy the boat ride in clear waters of narmada amidst the rocky terrain. The devotees also undertake the omakreshwar parikrama of 8kms which can be done on foot . Plenty of shops selling souvenirs and other religious items are lined along the way to the temple. The jyotirling in mamleshwar Mahadev temple is also known as amreshwar Mahadev. It is an ancient temple with intricate work of art in stone .there are Beautiful carvings in the walls and pillars and in the pradakshina path of the temple, there lies few other temples , smaller in size but with equally beautiful architectural finess .. Jalabhishekh can be done both in mamleshwar and omkareshwar temples , and except some sacred days , the temples remain crowd free throughout the year. The omkareshwar temple is situated a km away from the mamleshwar temple , and we crossed the bridge to reach the omakreshwar temple.
