In our most epic ever tale, we share the story of a sweet pepper crop that was almost lost to a formidable enemy: Bacterial Wilt. Sweet pepper is a major crop at Winterthorn, and is one of the high-value crops we that are part of our strategy. But it can also be one of the most difficult crops to grow successfully and requires a lot of skill, determination and good fortune. The crop of red and yellow sweet pepper that we planted in Dec 2021 in our shadehouse at Westgate became one of the toughest experiences that our farm has ever had. It all started off so positively and the crop was growing well. That is until we saw the first signs of a wilting disease that would soon leave us losing hundreds of plants. But despite all the challenges, our Team managed to come through the trials and learnt some valuable lessons along the way.
