The Teck Emergency Centre at St. Paul’s Hospital delivers fast, compassionate care to over 100,000 patients each year. When patients arrive at the Teck Emergency Centre, they are often facing one of the most stressful moments of their lives. The team at St. Paul’s Hospital is committed to meeting them with compassion, clarity, and care. But behind the scenes, something even more powerful is happening: a seamless integration of clinical care and research that is redefining emergency medicine in British Columbia. This is one of the first emergency departments in Canada to embed research directly into daily practice. Clinicians ask critical questions—Why do we do things this way? One such initiative helped safely discharge 25% of chest pain patients with confidence, reducing crowding and improving satisfaction for both patients and physicians.
