I cleaned my pool covered in black algae with a cheapie $90 Greenworks 1500 PSI pressure washer. I spent another $55 for pool chemicals and $100 to drain and refill my pool. My pool was black, but I didn't have to pay anyone to do an acid wash and it was 100 times easier than using a steel brush. I tried using the pressure washer underwater first and that doesn't work. But once you drain it you can remove the black algae in long strips with even an inexpensive pressure washer. If you've got just a few black dots like the ones in the rest of the "Get Rid of Black Algae" videos then this video is overkill. But if you let it go and you've got a massive black algae bloom on your hands, this video is for you. 0:00 Black algae covers HALF the pool. 0:00:47 Clean all filter components. 0:01:24 Pressure wash cartridge filters. 0:01:49 Pressure wash underwater? 0:02:27 Drain pool with sump pump. 0:02:53 I test wash then scrape with trichlor tablet. 0:04:09 Don't touch the water when sump is plugged in. 0:04:32 What pressure washing looks like. 0:05:44 It is fun to kill black algae. 0:06:50 It took me 8 hours. 0:07:29 The results before adding 4x shock. 0:08:23 After two days, before adding 2x shock. 0:10:43 Six weeks later. Chlorine gas warning. UPDATE 1: 4 months later: the black algae has not come back. I am doing my normal chlorination routine. After I published this video I did one more final shock and scrub-with-a-wire-brush on the small number of remaining patches of black algae. I'm calling this a success but I'm going to keep watching for patches and attacking them aggressively before they take over the pool like the last time. UPDATE 2: It has been 22 months since I did the work and the black algae has not returned.
