The largest flowered Cattleya orchid hybrid I own,Rhyncholaeliocattleya Rlc Burdekin Wonder Lakeland

The largest flowered Cattleya orchid hybrid in my collection is blooming, the marvellous Rhyncholaeliocattleya Rlc Burdekin Wonder Lakeland. The size of the flower is impressive, is basically is as big as my hand, about 17 cm across, and is even more stunning if you consider the size of the plant: the pseudobulbs are about 10 cm long and also the leaves are about 10-12 cm long, and you can easily see that the flower is actually bigger than the leaves!!! Only my Cattleya warscewiczii (that is a Cattleya species, and not a hybrid) produces bigger flowers, but the plant is absolutely huge and the size of the flower is no way surpassing the size of the leaves (you can see my Cattleya warscewiczii in full bloom in this video    • Cattleya warscewiczii: how I bloom the spe...   ). I love everything about this flower, the humongous size, the very frilly lip and petals, the pure white colour contrasting with the bright yellow of the inner part of the lip, the fact that it blooms in winter, but maybe most of all, I absolutely love the fragrance of this orchid, that varies not only in intensity, but also in notes, with the ageing of the flower, spreading its scent around all my bedroom, with just one flower!!! I really can't recommend this orchid enough, unfortunately getting Cattleyas in the UK became a lot more difficult after Brexit, but I bought this one a few years ago at Laurence Hobbs Orchids, a nursery in the UK, that has an amazing variety of orchids, including several Cattleyas as well as their hybrids and relatives, (the website is https://laurencehobbsorchids.co.uk/ ). Rlc. Burdekin Wonder Lakeland is not very easy to find in the UK (I was very lucky), but in other countries is a bit more common: if you have the chance to buy one, I can guarantee you will absolutely love it!!! I grow it in semi-hydro, but bark is a perfectly fine medium to grow this orchid; it loves bright light, but not as much as Cattleya warscewiczii or Rhyncholaelia digbyana; I have it on an East facing windowsill, getting direct sun (through the window glass) until midday, and then getting indirect light for the rest of the day.
