EN: Lake Antholz (Italian: Lago di Anterselva) is a mountain lake at the end of the Antholz Valley in the Italian province of South Tyrol, near the border with Austria at the Staller Sattel. It is protected as part of the Rieserferner-Ahrn Nature Park. The lake belongs to the municipality of Rasen-Antholz, lies at an altitude of 1,642 metres, has a maximum depth of 38 metres and covers an area of 44 hectares. The lake can be circumnavigated in about an hour's hike, mostly through wooded areas. The circular trail, which has been set up as a nature discovery trail, provides a wealth of information about the local flora and fauna, which is presented on display boards or in a playful manner along the way. Next to the lake is the South Tyrol Arena biathlon stadium, for which Antholz is famous throughout Europe. Five Biathlon World Championships have already been held here, most recently the 2020 Biathlon World Championships. In addition, Biathlon World Cup races are held annually around Lake Antholz. The tracks are located at around 1,600 metres above sea level, making them the highest in the Biathlon World Cup. NICE TO KNOW: There is a well-known legend about the origin of the lake: once upon a time, there were three stately farms here. When a beggar asked for alms on a church holiday, the inhabitants of the farms turned him away cold-heartedly and without giving him anything. The beggar is said to have threatened that a spring would rise up behind the houses. And less than three days later, a new spring began to bubble up there, and the water subsequently flooded the three farms: Lake Antholz was created. ---------------------------------------------------------- DE: Der Antholzer See (italienisch Lago di Anterselva) ist ein Bergsee am Ende des Antholzer Tals in der italienischen Provinz Südtirol, nahe der Grenze zu Österreich am Staller Sattel. Er ist im Naturpark Rieserferner-Ahrn unter Schutz gestellt. Der See gehört zur Gemeinde Rasen-Antholz, liegt auf 1642 Metern Höhe, hat eine maximale Tiefe von 38 Metern und umfasst eine Fläche von 44 Hektar. Der See kann in ca. einstündiger Wanderung – zumeist durch Waldgebiet führend – umrundet werden. Auf dem als Naturerlebnispfad eingerichteten Rundweg erhält man dabei viele Informationen zur heimischen Flora und Fauna, welche auf Schautafeln oder auf spielerische Weise entlang des Weges dargestellt sind. Neben dem See befindet sich das Biathlon-Stadion Südtirol Arena, für das Antholz europaweit bekannt ist. Hier wurden bereits fünf Biathlon-Weltmeisterschaften ausgetragen, letztmals die Biathlon-Weltmeisterschaften 2020. Außerdem werden rund um den Antholzer See jährlich Biathlon-Weltcuprennen ausgetragen. Die Strecken liegen auf rund 1600 m und sind damit die höchstgelegenen im Biathlon-Weltcup. (Quelle: Wikipedia) WISSENSWERTES: Über die Entstehung des Sees gibt es eine bekannte Sage: Einst sollen hier drei stattliche Bauernhöfe gestanden haben. Als an einem Kirchtag ein Bettler um Almosen bat, wiesen ihn die Bewohner der Bauernhöfe hartherzig und ohne milde Gabe ab. Darauf soll der Bettler gedroht haben, dass hinter den Häusern eine Quelle entspringen werde.
